Some of the best conversations I've ever had have been in people's living rooms.
To me, living rooms are the beating heart of human relationships and our lives as 21st-century beings. We design houses that are centered around living rooms. It's the first room we clean when we're expecting company. It's where we retreat to after a long day.
It's also the room, I've found, that is most open to conversation. Something about being seated on my couch or plopped on the carpet or big cozy chair of a friends' living room makes me want to chat. About love and loss, our latest and greatest binge watch, our hopes and dreams, the interesting woman we were stuck in line with at the grocery store, an online beauty trend that made me break out in hives, theories about how much someone's childhood really shapes them as adults, painfully heartfelt ice breakers after a dinner party, excited spats over the rules to a new board game, the weather, plans for the weekend, or what I researched the other night when I couldn't sleep at 2:30 a.m.
A "living room" also happens to be a play on words with my name, (Liv-ing room) so it's what I've decided to name this blog, which will cover a range of topics I often find myself bringing up when seated in a living room.
The best part about having your own blog is that there are no rules! But as a general guideline, some of the things I want to write about include TV and movies, my life in Madison and Wisconsin, experiences as a 20-something (how original, I know), baking and recipes, new hobbies, friendships and relationships, social ideas and trends, pop culture, grief and womanhood, health and politics and style.
The list will go on and it may also narrow a bit as I go on, but regardless, I hope there will be something for you here. If you have things you want to read about — or want me to shut up about — I'm always open to ideas or suggestions.
Also, this is a work in progress. I want the site to be smooth and well-designed, but mainly I just want to write and share my thoughts. I don't have a copy editor or a web designer, so there may be imperfections and bugs as we go along. But let's all remember that it's really not that serious.
Talk soon.
